What is the Development Program?
The Development Program (Devo) is designed for young skiers who are ready to take the next step in their skiing journey through more focused coaching, skill development, and an introduction to alpine racing. Devo combines all-mountain skill development with age-appropriate race training in a fun, supportive team environment.
Athletes develop strong skiing fundamentals through directed free skiing, technical drills, and gate training. While racing is introduced as part of the program, our primary focus is developing confident, well-rounded skiers who can ski a variety of terrain with skill, independence, and confidence.
Devo athletes are encouraged to participate in at least one race during the season, typically the Great Divide Race if held, to experience competition in a fun and supportive environment. Race opportunities are dependent on snow conditions and event scheduling. Devo serves as an important bridge between recreational skiing and competitive alpine skiing, helping athletes develop the skills, confidence, and work habits needed for future progression within the Great Divide Ski Team.
Program Details
- Target Age Group: Primarily ages 7 and older
- Prerequisites: Athletes should have completed at least one season in our All-Mountain Program or demonstrate equivalent skiing ability. Skiers must be comfortable skiing intermediate terrain, able to ride all chairlifts independently, and manage their equipment without assistance.
- Assessment Day: Prospective athletes participate in an on-snow Assessment Day in December (snow conditions permitting) to ensure the program is a good fit for their ability level, independence, and readiness.
- Coaching: Led by our professional coaching staff with an emphasis on technical skill development, all-mountain skiing, and introductory alpine race training.
- Program Fee: $575
- Training Schedule: Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a lunch break. Dates: January 16th through March 13th
